Bridge of Hope host Summer School on Transitional Justice

23/06/2015

Bridge of Hope is delighted to be a part of Ulster University’s Summer School on Transitional Justice again this year.

It’s the third year we’ve hosted a summer school session about our grassroots transitional justice programme that has been delivered to Belfast communities hit hard by the legacy of the conflict. This innovative work, funded by the Victims and Survivors Service, has been developed over recent years in partnership with the Transitional Justice Institute (TJI) and in particular academic Eilish Rooney.

The theme of this year’s summer school (June 22-26) is ‘Gendering the Practices of Post Conflict Resolution: Investigations, Reparations and Communal Repair’. On Tuesday TJI academic Eilish Rooney presented her session ‘Addressing Gender in the Context of Community’ to the summer school students at Jordanstown. Afterwards the group travelled to Ashton Community Trust’s McSweeney Centre to hear more about our work and from women who have taken part in our grassroots programme from West Belfast and Shankill.
